Michael’s Eighth Avenue was founded in the 1950s by Harry and May Wagner, who operated a poultry and egg business, and made deliveries throughout Baltimore and Anne Arundel County.
The 1960s saw a growing demand from area restaurants for all kinds of food products, so a new generation of the Wagner's was established.
Soon the Wagners were hosting special events on their property, but required a larger facility to meet demand. Michael Wagner purchased the Kohn and Kelly Deli on Crain Highway, continuing to operate the deli and also launching a catering operation. Wagners contributed to the new company, H&M Wagner & Sons Inc. This enterprise started at a modest size, but today its product line includes more than 9,000 items.
Eventually an even larger facility was needed, so the business moved to Roesler Road near Ritchie Highway, then in 1982 to Penrod Court, just a few blocks from where Michael’s Eighth Avenue stands today.
Construction on the current Michael’s Eighth Avenue began in 1990, and was personally supervised by Michael, his wife Carol, and their son Scott. This beautiful property features lovely decor, ornate staircases, charming colors, mirrors, and furniture, all guided by the vision of the Wagner family.
More business enterprises followed, including Mikie’s Restaurant and three baseball facilities in Anne Arundel County.
